The COVID Pandemic in England

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic of 2020 onwards has been described as the second most deadly event in recent human history.

The first was attributed to the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 (see Amazon for David Holding's book on this subject).

A comparison has been made between the two events because of the similarities between the two as regards high mortality and because of the resultant impact, the pandemics had on the social and economic structures of the countries involved.

This work provides the reader with a comprehensive background to the virus's origins, its subsequent rapid spread in England, and the government's responses and control policies implemented to halt its progress.

This work will be of interest to both the science-orientated and the general reader with concern in this vital area of public health and in the preparation for future pandemics.

Dr David Holding studied history at Manchester University before entering the teaching profession in the 1970s. He taught in both state and independent sectors. During this time, he continued historical research culminating in both a Master's degree and a Doctorate. Having previously studied law, David gained a Master of Law degree in Medical Law, which enabled him to transfer to teaching legal courses at university. Since retiring, David has concentrated his research and writing on various aspects of local history, legal trials, forensic science and medico-legal topics.
